The video demonstrates how to replace the tire on a bandsaw wheel. First, disconnect the power and remove the wheel from the bandsaw. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the old tire away from the wheel, being careful not to scratch the surface. Then, install the new tire using one of two methods: either by using your hands to pull and stretch the tire onto the wheel, or by using cable ties or clamps to secure the tire in place and then working it onto the wheel in halves. Once the tire is on, use a small flat-head screwdriver to seat and even out the tire around the wheel. Finally, reinstall the wheel on the bandsaw, test for any vibrations or noises, and ensure that the blade tracks correctly. If everything checks out, the process is complete, and you can enjoy using your bandsaw with the new tires.
Use this information in conjunction with the instructions below:
Wheel Preparation:
- Clean the work area of sawdust.
- Clean the rim of the wheel using lacquer thinner or another solvent.
- Finish prepping the wheel surface by removing any solvent residue with denatured alcohol leaving a clean smooth surface.
Urethane Tire Installation Instructions:
- Submerge Urethane tire in a mixture of water and dish soap heated to at least 120ºF for five to ten minutes for easier installation.
- Remove tires from soapy water and immediately slide them over the band saw wheel.
- Make sure tire is seated correctly on wheel and evenly distributed around the wheel to prevent an out of balance wheel.
- Let tire cool completely, approximately 12 hours, without blade installed before running band saw.
Caution: Water and tire will be extremely hot, use gloves to protect your hands.
