V-belts are generic and can be bought from Grizzly or locally. Identify your belt by checking the manual, looking for numbers on the belt, measuring its width, and understanding the size codes. Different series require length adjustments. Cogged V-belts are for higher power needs. Contact us if unsure about your belt size.
Where to Buy Replacement Belts
V-belts are generally a generic part, which means you have options. You can purchase them directly from Grizzly, or from a variety of retailers such as local auto parts stores or even sewing machine shops. By using the tips below to identify your belt, you’ll be able to find a replacement quickly and get your machine back up and running.
Identifying your Belt
When you need a replacement V-belt for your machine, here are the steps to identify the correct belt:
1. Check Your Manual or Parts Diagram
The easiest way to find the correct V-belt is by looking at your machine’s manual or parts diagram. This will show the part number and location of the belt.
2. Look for Numbers on the Belt
If you don’t have the manual, check the belt itself. Most V-belts have numbers printed on the top (called the crown). These numbers help identify the size and type of belt.
3. Measure the Belt Width
If the numbers are worn off, you can measure the belt’s cross-section width. Here are common sizes:
- 2L = 0.25" (¼ inch)
- 3L = 0.375" (3/8 inch)
- 4L = 0.50" (½ inch)
- 5L = 0.66" (21/32 inch)
4. Understand the Belt Numbers
After identifying the width, the remaining numbers usually indicate the belt length. For example:
- 4L390 means the belt is 39.0 inches long.
- If you see 395, that means 39.5 inches (a half size).
5. Matching Belt Series
Sometimes customers notice a size difference when replacing belts. This is because different series use slightly different measurements. Here’s a quick guide:
- A series → Add 2" to get the equivalent 4L size.
- B series → Add 3" to get the equivalent 5L size.
- 4L series → Subtract 2" to get the equivalent A size.
- 5L series → Subtract 3" to get the equivalent B size.
Example:
- PVA37 = 4L390 (about 2" difference)
- PVB37 = 5L400 (about 3" difference)
6. Cogged V-Belts
In addition to standard V-belts, there are Cogged V-belts. These are designed for higher power applications and allow for smaller pulleys and better power transmission.
Example: PVMX60 V-BELT MX60
