This Grizzly video demonstrates how to adjust the blade wheels and blade guides when installing a new blade on a metal-cutting bandsaw.
Please refer to the instructions below for a step-by-step guide.
Note: Some information listed may be specific to the G0561 that is featured in the video above.
Step-by-Step Guide to Blade and Guide Adjustment on a Metal Cutting Bandsaw
Safety First:
- Always unplug the bandsaw before performing any adjustments.
Blade Removal and Guide Adjustment:
- Unplug the bandsaw.
- Remove the old blade: Raise the upper arm, open the cover, release the blade tension, and carefully remove the blade.
- Adjust blade guides: Loosen the locking nut on the adjustable side of both upper and lower guides. Slightly turn the eccentric bearing mounting shaft to create space for the new blade.
Installing the New Blade:
- Handle the new blade with care: Blades often come coiled and can be sharp.
- Install the blade: Place the blade around the wheels and apply minimal tension to hold it in place.
- Temporarily power on: Briefly plug in the bandsaw and turn it on/off quickly to position the blade on the wheels.
- Finish tensioning: Unplug the bandsaw and complete the blade tensioning process.
Adjusting Blade Guides:
- Ensure proper blade clearance: Verify the blade isn't touching the rear bearing support.
- Adjust guide bearings: Loosen the thumb screw on the guide bearing adjustment and position the bearings to lightly touch the blade. The bearing should turn freely without turning the blade.
- Tighten the locking nut: Secure the guide bearings in place.
Checking and Adjusting Blade Tracking:
- Inspect blade position: A properly tracked blade should lightly touch the back shoulder of the blade wheels, approximately 1/16 inch from the rear bearing.
- Adjust tracking (if needed): If the blade is too far forward, make a slight adjustment to bring it closer to the wheel lip.
Final Steps:
- Close the blade covers: Ensure the blade is fully enclosed.
- Lower and lock the upper arm: Secure the upper arm above the workpiece.
- Adjust blade guides: Position the upper and lower guides close to the workpiece without touching it.
Now you're ready to start cutting!
Note: Always consult your bandsaw's owner's manual for specific instructions and safety precautions.
