Welding and Installing a Band Saw Blade
Preparation
- Safety first: Wear safety glasses and gloves.
- Gather tools: Ensure you have access to the band saw, grinder, and blade welder.
- Prepare blade: Trim the heated area and weld seam on the blade to ensure a square cut and even gullet spacing.
Welding Process
- Secure blade: Clamp the blade ends in the welder, ensuring a tight and square fit.
- Adjust pressure: Set the pressure dial to an appropriate level for the blade size.
- Initiate weld: Press the weld button to start the welding process.
- Remove blade: Once the weld is complete, unclamp the blade and remove it from the welder.
Grinding Process
- Grind weld seam: Use a grinder to remove excess material from the weld seam, maintaining a consistent blade thickness.
- Annealing process: Re-clamp the blade and apply heat to the weld area three to four times until it reaches a cherry red color. This process improves the weld's malleability.
- Grind weld seam again: Repeat the grinding process to refine the weld seam.
Installation
- Install blade: Mount the welded blade onto the band saw wheels, ensuring proper tension and tracking.
Note: Always follow the specific instructions for your band saw model and blade welder.
