- Safety first: Disconnect the sander from power and disconnect dust hoses.
- Gather tools: Prepare the conversion kit, utility knife, hard plastic scraper, adhesive remover, lacquer thinner, gloves, and 3/4 inch reinforced tape.
- Access drums: Remove the top cover of the sander.
- Remove sandpaper: Cut and remove the tape securing the sandpaper on the right side of the front drum. Unwind the sandpaper, removing the clip on the left side. Repeat for the rear drum, removing the felt backing with a heat gun if necessary.
- Clean drums: Use adhesive remover and a plastic scraper to remove all adhesive residue. Clean with lacquer thinner and allow to dry.
- Prepare hook backing: Peel back a portion of the protective film from the hook backing.
- Apply hook backing: Align the hook backing with the drum's left side and wrap it tightly around the drum, removing the protective film as you go.
- Secure hook backing: Install and tape both ends of the sandpaper with reinforced tape.
- Repeat for rear drum: Repeat steps 6-8 for the rear drum, using the finer grit sandpaper.
- Reassemble: Reinstall the dust hood and connect the dust hoses.
- Test: Run the sander with scrap wood to ensure proper sandpaper adhesion and drum rotation.
