G1023 Series Table Saw Assembly Instructions
Preparation
- Gather tools and materials: You'll need a list of items provided in the manual for assembly, a dust collection system (optional), mobile base (optional), and safety glasses.
- Download the latest manual: Download the latest G1023 series manual from Grizzly's website (http://pdfs.corporate.grizzly/G1023RL_m.pdf).
Cleaning the Machine
- Remove rust preventative: Use a solvent (not chlorine-based) to remove the protective coating from the cast iron surfaces. Wipe clean with disposable rags or a paint scraper.
Assembly Steps (General)
- Mobile base (optional): If using a mobile base, follow the base instructions to install it before placing the saw on it.
Extension Wing Installation
- Remove bolts and washers: Remove the bolts and washers from the main table's end or hardware bag.
- Check mating surfaces: Ensure the extension wing and main table are free of burrs.
- Install extension wing (with helper): Align the left extension wing with the main table and connect the bolts.
- Align and check flatness: Use a straight edge to ensure the tops of the tables are aligned. If uneven, use masking tape shims on the main table edges for adjustment.
- Repeat for right side (except RLX, RLW, & RLWX models): Follow steps 5-8 for the right extension wing (if applicable). Install after fence rails are complete (for RLX, RLW, & RLWX models).
Switch, Cover, Dust Port, and Hand Wheel Installation
- Attach on/off switch: Secure the switch to the extension wing with the provided hardware.
- Mount switch brace: Install the switch brace using the pre-drilled holes.
- Install motor cover latch and cover: Mount the latch and then the cover, aligning the hinges.
- Mount fence resting brackets: Secure the brackets onto the motor cover.
- Install dust port: Attach the dust port to the cabinet's backside.
- Install hand wheel: Place the shaft key, hand wheel, and tighten the set screw. Then, add the lock knob and handle.
Fence Assembly
- Install fence rails and fence: Use the provided hardware and pre-drilled holes to mount the rails and fence.
- Adjust fence gap: Ensure a 1/16-inch gap between the fence and the table surface.
Router Table Extension (RLW & RLWX Models Only)
- Install router table extension: Refer to the separate instructions provided with the router table extension wing. You can also find them online at Grizzly (https://www.grizzly.com/products/grizzly-18-x-27-router-extension-table-for-table-saw/h7507).
Extension Table (RLX Model Only)
- Install extension table: Install the extension table after completing the fence rail installation (refer to separate instructions).
Final Steps
- Install adjustable feet: Place the adjustable feet into the leg bottoms, ensuring they are shorter than the table saw rail height.
- Attach legs and adjust height: Secure the legs to the fence rails using the hardware. Adjust the feet to level the saw and tighten the hex nuts.
- Install scale and cursor (refer to manual).
- Blade installation and fence scale (refer to manual).
Test Run
- Connect dust hose and power cord.
- Ensure all setup items are clear.
- Put on safety glasses and plug in the machine.
- Remove switch disabling lock and turn on the machine.
- Verify smooth operation. Turn off the machine if you hear strange noises or feel excessive vibration.
