What is the difference between the G1012 bandsaw and the G4186Z bandsaw?
Both bandsaws have 18" wheels, but due to guard differences, the G1012 has a 17-5/8" throat capacity, and the G4186Z has a 17-1/4" throat. The G1012 is a 3-speed machine, while the G4186Z is a single-speed machine. The G1012 has removable wheel covers, and the G4186Z has hinged covers. The G1012 has a 2-piece cast iron body, and the G4186Z has a 1-piece formed steel body.
Does this machine have cast iron or aluminum wheels?
The G4186Z has balanced, cast aluminum wheels with rubber tires.
Can this machine be wired for 110V?
Yes. The motor can be rewired for 110V, and the switch is dual voltage as well.
Can I use this bandsaw for resawing?
You can resaw to a limited degree. The limits to resawing are a function of motor size, blade style, type of wood, and maximum cutting height. Remember, this bandsaw is not primarily a resaw machine.
Is an extension block kit available for this machine?
No. This machine has a one-piece formed steel body.
What's the difference between skip, hook, and raker toothed blades?
Skip tooth blades have widely spaced teeth to prevent clogging, which is good for straight cuts like ripping. Hook tooth blades have a 10° rake angle, causing the blade to cut more aggressively. This type of blade clears out chips quickly and is best for resawing. Raker tooth blades have teeth that are offset to the left and right. This blade is best for cutting circles and contours.
