This guide and accompanying videos explain how to adjust or reset the blade tension rod on G0555-series bandsaws. Disconnect power, release tension, install the correct blade, apply and set tension, check tracking, and secure the locking hardware, following model-specific lever and collar or nut instructions and the owner’s manual.
This video demonstrates how to adjust the tension rod on the Deluxe G0555 series bandsaws: G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35.
This video demonstrates how to adjust the tension rod on the standard G0555 series bandsaws: G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35.
How to Adjust or Reset the Blade Tension Rod
This procedure covers the G0555 series bandsaws. The tensioning mechanism comes adjusted for a 93-1/2" blade, but it may need to be reset when installing a blade of a different length or a riser block kit.
The tension rod adjustment procedure varies slightly by model. Follow the model-specific instructions where indicated.
Safety First
- Disconnect the bandsaw from power before performing any adjustments.
- Read these instructions thoroughly and refer to your bandsaw's owner's manual before beginning.
- Follow all applicable shop safety procedures.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Disconnect the bandsaw from power. Unplug the machine before beginning any adjustments.
- Move the quick-release lever to the tension position.
- G0555, G0555X, and G0555XH: Move the lever to the horizontal position.
- G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35: Move the lever to the right position.
- Move the locking hardware out of the way.
- G0555, G0555X, and G0555XH: Loosen the set screw in the lower lock collar, then turn the collar upward against the upper collar.
- G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35: Use two 14 mm wrenches to loosen the two lower nuts on the tension rod shaft. Turn the nuts upward on the shaft so they are out of the way.
- Release the blade tension.
- G0555, G0555X, and G0555XH: Move the quick-release lever to the vertical position.
- G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35: Move the quick-release lever to the left position.
- Release any remaining tension. Turn the tension knob counterclockwise until all tension is released and the sliding housing begins to move downward.
- Install the blade, if needed. Install a new blade or a blade of a different length, following the instructions in your owner's manual.
- Apply initial tension. Turn the tension knob clockwise until the slack has been removed from the blade and the blade begins to tension.
- Engage the quick-release lever.
- G0555, G0555X, and G0555XH: Move the lever down to the horizontal position.
- G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35: Move the lever to the right position.
- Set the blade tension. Continue turning the tension knob until the tension indicator is within the recommended range for the installed blade width. Use the indicator window and scale on the back of the saw.
- Check blade tracking. Verify that the blade tracks in the center of the wheels. If adjustment is needed, use the black tracking knob on the back of the saw.
- Secure the locking hardware.
- G0555, G0555X, and G0555XH: Turn the lower lock collar down until it contacts the top of the housing. Back it off one to two turns, then tighten the set screw.
- G0555LX, G0555LANV, and G0555LA35: Turn the two lower nuts down until they contact the top of the sliding housing. Turn them back up two to three turns, then tighten them securely with the two 14 mm wrenches.
The blade is now tensioned and can be quickly detensioned when the bandsaw is not in use or when changing the blade.
Important: Always refer to your bandsaw's owner's manual for model-specific instructions and safety precautions.
