Before You Begin
Tools and materials you may need:
- Your machine owner’s manual
- Shop vacuum or dust collection system
- Clean cloths or rags
- Approved table surface lubricant or protectant
- Manufacturer‑recommended lubricant
- Basic hand tools (for inspection and tightening)
Safety requirement:
Always power off the shaper and disconnect it from its power source before performing maintenance.
Daily Safety Checks
Before daily operation, inspect the machine and do not operate it if any unsafe condition exists:
- Confirm mounting bolts are secure
- Inspect cutters for wear, cracks, or damage
- Clean and lubricate the table and miter gauge
- Check electrical wiring for wear, damage, or exposed conductors
- Correct any other unsafe condition before use
Weekly Cleaning
At least once per week:
- Clean or vacuum dust buildup from inside and around the cabinet and off the motor
Monthly Mechanical Checks
On a monthly basis:
- Check and lubricate the spindle slide
- Check and lubricate the leadscrew
- Inspect the V‑belt for proper condition and correct tension
Annual Maintenance
Once per year, or as recommended by the manufacturer:
- Replace the V‑belt
After Completion
- Restore power only after all maintenance steps are complete
- Record maintenance dates and completed actions for preventative maintenance tracking
