What is the difference between a spiral cutterhead and a straight-knife cutterhead?
Spiral cutterheads provide longer edge life, faster cutter changes, reduced ripples and chipping, quieter operation, and a superior finish on workpieces compared to straight-knife cutterheads. Carbide inserts in the spiral cutterhead last approximately ten times longer than standard HSS knives.
