General Questions

What is the maximum diameter cutter that I can put on this machine?
The maximum table opening is 5" in diameter. For safety and quality of cut, we recommend taking more than one pass.

What is the maximum cutter height that I can mount on this shaper?
The maximum cutter height is 2".

Is a taller spindle available for taller cutters?
No. Taller spindles are not available for this model.

Is a 1" spindle available for this machine?
No. For cutters with a 1" bore, you must use two T-bushings to reduce the size down to 3/4".

Is a router bit spindle available for this machine?
Yes. The G1705 Router Bit Spindle can be used in place of the shaper cutter spindles and will hold 1/4" and 1/2" shank router bits.

Will the optional G4840 Universal Shaper Dust Hood fit my older Model G1035?
Yes. You will need to drill and tap four holes for the mounting bolts.

What size power feeder should I use?
The 1/4 HP or 1/2 HP power feeders are adequate for most stock. If mounting a power feeder, it is recommended that the shaper be bolted to the floor for stability.

Spindle & Cutterhead Questions

How is the spindle held in place?
The spindle is held with a threaded drawbar that runs through the drive spindle.

How do I know how fast to run my cutters?
Operating speed depends on the diameter of the cutter and the hardness of the wood:

• Smaller diameter cutters or softer wood → faster speeds

• Larger diameter cutters or harder wood → slower speeds

What spindle sizes are included?
1/2" and 3/4" spindles.

What is the maximum spindle travel?
3".

What is the exposed spindle length?
Approximately 3-1/8".

What spindle speeds are available?
7000 RPM and 10,000 RPM.

Electrical Questions

Can this machine run on both 120V and 240V?
Yes. The shaper is prewired for 120V, but it can operate on 240V with the recommended plug and cord.

What size breaker do I need?

• 120V → 15A

• 240V → 15A

Is a plug included?
Yes, a 5-15 plug is included for 120V. For 240V, the recommended plug is 6-15.

Does it have forward/reverse operation?
Yes. The shaper uses a lockable forward/reverse switch.

Table & Fence Questions

What size is the table?
The cast-iron table measures 20-1/4" L x 18" W x 1-1/4" thick.

What is the floor-to-table height?
33-1/2".

What type of fence does it use?
The fence is cast iron with wood faces, measuring 21-1/2" long x 2-3/4" tall x 1/2" thick.

Does it include a miter gauge?
Yes. A cast-iron miter gauge is included, adjustable 0–60° left/right, running in a straight slot.

How many table inserts are included?
Two inserts: ID 1-1/4" and 3-1/2"; OD 3-1/2" and 5".

What is the table counterbore size?
Diameter: 5"; depth: 7/16".

V-Belt & Maintenance Questions

What if I need to replace the V-belt in a hurry? Is it available locally?
Yes. The 7 x 600L V-belt can be purchased at most bearing and belt supply houses. Check your local Yellow Pages for a source near you.
