General Questions
What is the warranty on the G1021 Planer?
The G1021 comes with a 1-year warranty from the date of purchase.
What type of motor does this planer have?
It is equipped with a 2 HP, 220V, single-phase motor, running at 3,450 RPM and drawing 12 Amps.
Can I run this planer on a generator?
Yes, but only with larger generators. A minimum of 7.5 kW is recommended.
Where is the serial number located?
The serial number can be found on the ID label on the machine.
Cutterhead & Knives
What type of cutterhead does the G1021 have?
It features a 3-knife cutterhead supported by ball bearings and powered by triple V-belts from the motor.
How many knives are included?
Three HSS knives are included along with a 3-piece knife setting tool.
Can I run moulding knives in my G1021 Planer?
No. There isn’t enough clearance around the cutterhead or adjustment in the infeed roller to accommodate moulding knives.
What is the maximum cutting width and height?
Maximum width: 14-7/8"
Maximum height: 6-1/8"
What is the maximum depth of cut?
The planer can remove up to 1/8" per pass.
How do I know how fast to feed the board?
The machine features automatic infeed and outfeed rollers that feed the work evenly. The rate of feed is 16 or 20 FPM, depending on the setup.
Table & Feed Rollers
What type of feed rollers does the G1021 have?
Front infeed roller: Metal with spiral serrations
Rear outfeed roller: Metal with straight serrations
What is the table size?
The table measures 15" x 20", with cast iron precision-ground construction.
Do the table or rollers move during operation?
Dual table locks prevent movement while planing, and the infeed/outfeed rollers extend 15" on each end of the table for additional support.
Oil & Maintenance
What type of oil should I use in the gearbox?
Use 90-weight gear oil. In unheated winter workshops, you may switch to 50-weight motor oil, and change back to 90-weight in warmer months.
Does the machine include a knife setting gauge?
Yes, a basic knife setting gauge is included. For more precise setups, the following are available:
G7155 – more accurate knife setting gauge
G1738 Rotocator – allows measurement of knife tolerances within 0.001" and helps maintain precise machine components
Electrical & Power
Since this is a 220V machine, what size breaker do I need?
You will need a 20A circuit breaker to operate this planer.
Dust Collection
What are the CFM requirements for a dust collector?
CFM requirements vary based on distance to the collector, wood moisture, and depth of cut. For setups within 10 feet, a collector with at least 450 CFM may suffice. Larger systems are generally better.
Do I have to use a dust collector?
No. The machine will operate without a dust collector, but the dust hood adapter should still be installed.
Motor Upgrades
