1. Can I replace the factory bag with a plastic garbage bag?
Using a plastic garbage bag may make dust disposal easier, but it will reduce the effective filter area, which decreases airflow (CFM) and overall efficiency. For best performance, this is not recommended.
2. What micron size bags come on the machine?
The dust collector comes with 30-micron filter bags as standard.
3. What adapter do I need to hook this unit up to my 2" shop vac hoses?
Dust collectors work differently than shop vacuums and should not be reduced down at the dust collector inlet. Reducing the intake will significantly reduce CFM and efficiency.
However, reducing hose size at the end of long duct runs may be necessary to maintain dust suspension. Grizzly offers standard hose reducers for this purpose.
4. How many machines can I connect to this dust collector?
This unit is rated at 1550 CFM, which can handle three average machines such as:
- 10" table saw
- 6" jointer
- Combination sander
Tip: Use blast gates to isolate machines and keep hose lengths as short as possible for maximum efficiency.
5. What is the impeller made of?
The impeller is made of balanced steel for durability and performance.
6. What is the best way to install a ground wire on my system?
- Run a bare copper wire inside the hose, connecting one end to the dust collector and the other to the machine.
- Make good ground connections to both machine bodies.
- Spiral an external wire around the outside of the hose every 6–8 inches and ground it to the machines.
For more details, refer to the G2525 Dust Collection Basics Handbook.
7. Can I purchase the machine without the bags or funnel-shaped collector?
No. The dust collector is only sold as a complete unit.
8. Can I use the dust collector to exhaust smoke or fine floating dust from my shop?
No. The capture area at the end of the hose is very limited. A dust hood is essential for each machine to ensure proper collection.
9. Is airflow restricted if I use a smaller micron bag?
Very little, if any. Smaller micron bags have smaller openings, but more pores per square inch, so airflow remains nearly the same.
