Electrical
What power does the G4003G require?
The lathe requires 220V, single-phase, 60 Hz, drawing a maximum of 8.5 amps with a minimum circuit size of 15A.
Does the G4003G require a neutral connection?
Yes. The wiring setup requires both a neutral and ground connection. If the power source is more than 6 feet away, an additional connection or cutoff switch may be needed for safety.
Does the lathe come with a power cord or plug?
No. A power cord and plug are not included. We recommend an “S”-Type, 3-wire, 14 AWG, 300 VAC cord and a 6-15 plug.
Motor and Spindle
What motor does the G4003G have?
The lathe is powered by a 2 HP, single-phase motor with twin V-belt drive.
What are the spindle specifications?
Spindle type: D1-5 Camlock
Spindle bore: 1.57 in.
Spindle taper: MT#5
Number of speeds: 9
Spindle speeds: 70–1400 RPM
Spindle bearings: High-precision tapered roller
Spindle length: 17 in. (varies with chuck or faceplate installed)
Can I use aftermarket chucks on the spindle?
Yes. You’ll need a plain back chuck and a blank back plate, which must be machined to fit both the spindle back plate and the chuck.
Tailstock
What are the tailstock features?
Tailstock taper: MT#3
Tailstock quill travel: 4 in.
Tailstock barrel diameter: 1.563 in.
Tailstock lock system: Uses a 1/2" torque wrench hub for consistent clamping.
How does the tailstock lock system help with gunsmithing?
The torque hub allows you to clamp the tailstock to a pre-determined torque setting, ensuring consistent draw-down alignment every time, even with multiple operators.
Carriage, Cross Slide, and Compound
What is the total carriage travel?
The carriage travel is 30-1/2 inches.
What is the cross slide and compound travel?
Cross slide travel: 6-1/4 in.
Compound travel: 3-1/4 in.
Gears and Feed
Are the gears on the G4003G steel or plastic?
The lathe uses steel gears.
How many longitudinal and cross feeds are available?
Longitudinal feeds: 40, ranging 0.0011–0.0310 in./rev.
Cross feeds: 40, ranging 0.0004–0.0105 in./rev.
Threading
What threading capabilities does the lathe have?
Inch threads: 40, 4–112 TPI
Metric threads: 29, 0.2–4.5 mm
Gunsmithing Features
What features make this lathe suitable for gunsmithing?
High-precision NSK tapered roller bearings
1-9/16" spindle bore
Spider mount system for long workpieces
Tailstock torque hub
Outboard support screws for long shafts
Full-length splash guard
LED work light
Ball-bearing steady and follow rests
V-slide for side adjustment
What is the minimum gun barrel length that can pass through the spindle?
With the 4-jaw chuck installed, the minimum barrel length is 23 inches, allowing machining or threading while the barrel extends through the spindle.
Accessories
Does the G4003G come with a stand?
Yes. The lathe includes a steel stand with an extended base, but it does not have leveling feet.
What accessories come with the G4003G?
1 MT#3 live center
1/2" chuck with MT#3 arbor
10" faceplate
2 MT#3 dead centers (1 carbide-tipped)
6" 3-jaw chuck with 2 sets of jaws
8" 4-jaw chuck with reversible jaws

Are replacement parts available for the spindle cam or camlock studs?
Yes. You can view and purchase parts through the Buy Parts tab on the product page or contact Product Support for guidance.
DRO and Upgrades
Does the G4003G include a DRO?
No, a digital readout is not included.
Which DRO is recommended?
The T33009 DRO is compatible. Installation may require drilling, tapping, and custom brackets for proper mounting.
Can the G4003G be used for non-gunsmithing projects?
Yes. While it has gunsmithing-specific features, it functions as a standard metalworking lathe for general turning, facing, and threading tasks.
