⚡ Electrical & Power
What voltage and amperage does the G1066Z require?
The sander runs on 220V, single-phase, 60 Hz, with a full-load current rating of 27A. A 30A circuit is required.
Does the machine include a plug?
The G1066Z comes with a 6-foot, 12 AWG cord, but the L6-30 plug is not included and must be purchased separately.
Can the sander be wired for 3-phase power?
No, the G1066Z is designed for 220V, single-phase operation only. It cannot be converted to 3-phase without significant modifications.
Does the sander have overload protection?
Yes, the control panel features a magnetic switch with overload protection to prevent motor damage during heavy use.
🛠️ Operation & Materials
What is the maximum board size the sander can handle?
The machine can sand boards up to 23-1/2" wide and 4" thick. Minimum dimensions are 2" wide and 1/8" thick. Minimum board length is 9".
Can the sander sand below 1/8" thickness?
No, the minimum board thickness is 1/8", and sanding thinner material is not recommended.
Can this machine sand materials other than wood, like copper bars?
No, the G1066Z is designed exclusively for sanding wood.
What sandpaper comes with the machine?
The sander includes one P1066Z092 sanding roll (3" x 50', A60, Hook & Loop) and one P1066Z096 sanding roll (3" x 50', A120, Hook & Loop).
Can I remove the hook-and-loop system to use plain sandpaper?
No, the hook-and-loop system cannot be removed, as there is no alternative method to secure plain sandpaper.
What angle should I cut sanding roll paper to fit the drums?
Use the original sandpaper as a template. The angle cut should result in a length of 19-1/4 inches across the drum. See page 34 of the product manual for an illustration.
What is the sanding speed of the drums?
The sanding drums run at 2300 FPM, providing consistent sanding for both coarse and fine passes.
Can the G1066Z handle rough lumber directly from the mill?
Yes, the dual 6" drums and variable-speed conveyor allow sanding of boards up to 4" thick. Extremely warped boards may require preliminary flattening.
Is the feed conveyor reversible?
No, the conveyor feed is one-way only. The feed speed is adjustable from 0–20 FPM to accommodate different sanding requirements.
Can the sander handle very small pieces?
The minimum board width is 2" and minimum length is 9". Pieces smaller than this may not feed safely and could be damaged.
⚙️ Drums, Belts & Adjustments
How do I remove the sanding drums to replace the dual V-belts?
Please refer to page 46 of the manual for the procedure. For additional assistance, contact Product Support directly.
What type and size are the sanding drums?
The G1066Z has dual 6" aluminum drums, with one for coarse sanding and one for fine sanding.
Is there an adjustment for the outfeed drum?
Yes, the outfeed drum has an external micro-adjustment for precise leveling.
Are the drums balanced for high-speed operation?
Yes, the aluminum sanding drums are computer-balanced to reduce vibration and provide smooth, accurate sanding.
Can I replace the drums with rubber-coated drums?
No, rubber-coated drums are not recommended. Rubber becomes “spongy” and does not sand evenly or parallel to the board ends.
How do I adjust drum height for thicker or thinner boards?
The G1066Z uses a four-leadscrew system for table lifting and lowering. Adjustments can be made via the handwheels on each corner to achieve the desired drum-to-board clearance.
