Power & Motor
What type of power does the T27417 require?
The sander operates on 120V, single-phase, 60 Hz power and uses a standard NEMA 1-15 plug for household outlets. It requires a 15A minimum circuit and includes a 7 ft. power cord.
How powerful is the motor?
The machine is equipped with a 450W (1/2 HP) permanent magnet motor, running at 11,500 RPM. The motor is belt-driven, uses sealed and permanently lubricated bearings, and requires no maintenance.
Belt Sanding
What are the sanding belt specifications?
Belt size: 4" wide x 24" long
Belt speed: 1575 FPM
Platen: Steel, 6-1/8" x 4"
Belt tension release: Quick-release lever
Is the backing plate (platen) flat?
Yes, the platen on the T27417 measures 4" x 6-1/8" and is flat.
Why do some platen plates appear concave?
The platen is constructed from sheet steel, which may not be perfectly flat in every case and can sometimes be bent in transit. The platen serves as a guide, not a precision straightedge. If yours is significantly bent, it can be replaced. Higher-end machines may use cast iron plates with Teflon pads for smoother sanding.
What should I do if the edge sanding attachment pops out of drive?
Ensure that the spindle washer is fully lowered and aligned on the shaft’s flats, install the entire belt sanding unit, and tighten the female knob securely. Then, check belt tracking by powering the machine on and off intermittently until alignment is correct. Contact Product Support if issues persist.
Spindle Sanding
What are the spindle sanding specifications?
Speeds: 2000 RPM with 58 oscillations per minute
Stroke length: 5/8"
Sanding drum diameters: 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", and 2"
The 1/2" sleeve does not have a drum and is placed directly on the spindle instead.
Drum length: 4-1/2"
5 sanding sleeves with matching inserts: 1/2" (placed on the spindle), 3/4", 1", 1-1/2", and 2"
Included sanding sleeve: 80 grit
Does the spindle lock for changing sleeves?
Yes. The spindle uses a screw to secure sanding sleeves. Over time, the rubber sleeve may distort slightly, but flattening it will restore proper sleeve changes.
Will the T10506 sleeves fit this sander?
Yes, they are compatible. However, the 3" sleeve in that set cannot be used on this model.
Table & Construction
What are the table dimensions and tilt range?
The table measures 16-3/4" x 16-1/4" and tilts from 0° to 45° with preset detents at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30°, and 45°.
Is the table plastic?
No. The table is cast aluminum for strength and stability.
Is the base plastic?
Yes. The base is constructed from durable plastic, which reduces weight while maintaining stability.
